a short diary about middle names...and why we shouldn't fear it, but turn it around...

Hey, Obama's got a funny name...at least in the US of A there is no denying that his name is unusual. Of course our country is a melting pot and we have lots of funny names...and more every day. But, especially to middle America, it is funny...and he should play it up.

"I have big ears and a funny name, but I'll work tirelessly to make America stronger and to re-build from the horror that Bush and McCain have thrust upon this great country over these last 7 shameful years..."
should be the start of every speech he gives between now and November....

more after the jump...

But more than just deflecting the talk about his "funny" name he should turn it around on the republican front runner.

Basically he should say, "Hey, It's my given name. I didn't choose it, but it was chosen for me by my mother who I loved, always will love, so very deeply. So I will never feel shame or dislike for this name given by my loving mother. Still, to attack or belittle me for a given name is just absurdity. What is much more honest and realistic is to question somebody about their own words, their own actions. Words or actions of THEIR choosing."

"To question John McCain over his support of George Bush and of his unending support for the war in Iraq...now THAT is a true and honest and acceptable thing to do. Heck, calling him Senator John "Staying in Iraq another 100 years is fine by me" McCain is actually a more honest attempt at advancing dialog in this country than trying to appeal to the thankfully dying breed of racists and divisionists in this country. At least those are HIS WORDS used against him."

"So please use my middle name, the name my amazing mother gave to me. Use it to rally the ever shrinking number of small-minded racists that sadly still live in this wonderful country founded on freedom. But don't forget that for every time people use this idiotic tactic, that we will be out there asking the REAL questions and making the REAL statements. Question of how we can make this country stronger, not tear it down further. How we can improve our economy. How we can get more and better jobs. How we can repair our standing throughout this world. A standing that use to be so very high. A standing earned over many years because we are a strong and a JUST nation. A standing recently taken down so low; not because of the actions or wishes or deeds of the American people, but because of the actions of a few men who lied and mislead and twisted words to get us into a war that they wanted for their own reasons."

"It won't be easy. Bush and McCain have damaged this country both at home and abroad so very very much these last 7 years. But I know WE can do this. We can do this because we don't care about given names. We care about actions. And our actions, yours and mine together, will bring this country together. And together we can not be stopped."

"We will not be distracted by the little words of little minds. We will not be distracted by little words that try and tear us apart. Those words have lead to 7 years of FAILURE and hate and pain."

"Those are words of the PAST. Our words of the FUTURE will take us forward to healing and unity and to making this country strong and grand and whole again. Their little words are no match for our grand actions. Their dishonest deeds will be swept away and be but a comma in the amazing history I see ahead for what WE can do when we are finally united again."
